In today’s emerging and
competitive global economy, only those organizations dedicated to continuous
learning are expected to grow and thrive. This course provides students with an
overview of the roles of training and development (T&D) in human resource
management. Theoretical foundations and practical issues involved in employee
T&D in business [profit and nonprofit] organizations are explored. This
course is an examination of individual and organizational strategies designed
to stimulate creative approaches to learning in organizations and will
facilitate an understanding of individual development from both an
organizational and personal perspective. Major topics include identifying
training and development needs through needs-assessments, analyzing jobs and
tasks to determine training and development objectives. Such a process includes
learning, designing, and evaluating the effectiveness of a variety of T&D
programs. In so doing, course requirements will include designing a
needs-assessment/analysis and a training evaluation program.
